Bitsofparag grunge

Greetings my fellow blogger, programmer, designer, music-lover and entrepreneur! I am Parag Majumdar, a geek who does nifty stuff on the web using spiffy web2.0 technology. Though i majored in computational chemistry, i have been programming since my school days. It started with the basic Basic to writing an end-of-school library management project in C. Then, grad school theses entailed a lot of heavy-duty FORTRAN and C++ codes. I also took a summer course in Java but all those years of procedural programming seemed to get in the way of thinking in objects. Then began a beautiful love-hate relationship with linux. Running programs with shell scripts seemed like the most fun thing i ever did since i threw water balloons on those unsuspecting passers-by. Here i would show off my Matrix-like Gentoo compilation while giving windows users the elitist snub. And justifiably so, as my linux desktops always looked snazzier.

But after the world realised that dot-coms and java applets were overhyped, web development took a whole new meaning by becoming more accessible and programmer-friendly. And thats when i slowly lapped up all the stuff one needs to know to build usable and functional webapps. My penchant for web standards coupled with a fairly developed sense of aesthetics means that i strive to make the web a beautiful place. I follow cross-browser compatibility guidelines and best programming practices which means i avoid writing self-documenting code like so:

ClassStoringUserInformation.
getUsersMakingSureThatUsernameIsUniqueAndContainingFirstNameLastNameAndPasswordAsAHydratedArray()
{
 var indexUsedAsIteratorInForLoop;
 ...
}

The cumulative result is this website which is what i like to call a left-aligned, fluid-layout, serif-based, semi-grunge, symfony-powered, portfolio-cum-blog website. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you liked what you've seen here. If not, you could try my photoblog which might seem a little more interesting. Cheerios!
